A computer hacker who financed the NGO "FBK" was convicted in Temryuk

The Temryuk District Court announced the verdict against Andrei Kovalenko, who was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 273, part 1 of Art. 187, part 1 of Art. 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

It follows from the court verdict that Kovalenko, having found accomplices on the Internet - "traffers", sent them malicious files, which they, under the guise of e-mail distributions, were supposed to distribute to the computers of foreign citizens - residents of Western Europe, as well as North and South America. For infecting 1,000 computers, each "traffer" was to receive $250.

Thus, Kovalenko gained access to user information that he stored on a computer hard drive for the purpose of subsequent purchases of goods in online stores, including Bay, Walmart, Amazon, at the expense of bank card holders, whose data was stolen by him.

Kovalenko was also found guilty of financing the NGO "FBK", whose activities in the territory of the Russian Federation were recognized as extremist.

Kovalenko was identified and detained by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory.

Having considered the materials of the case, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison with a fine of 200,000 rubles, and with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to administration
sites, electronic and information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet, for a period of 2 years. The verdict did not enter into force.

The defendant was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five years with a fine in the amount of 400 thousand rubles.

The illegal activities of Andrei Kovalenko were identified and stopped by officers of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Krasnodar Territory. As it turned out during the investigation, the young man participated in a criminal scheme for illegally debiting funds from the bank cards of foreign citizens, residents of Western Europe, as well as North and South America.

According to the investigation, Andrei Kovalenko found accomplices on the Internet - “traffers”, sent them malicious files, which they, under the guise of sending emails, were supposed to distribute to the computers of citizens of foreign countries. For infecting 1 thousand computers, each “traffer” was to receive $250.

After introducing the malicious program, Kovalenko gained access to user information, which he used to make purchases of goods in the Bay, Walmart, and Amazon online stores. Payments for purchases were debited from the cards of citizens whose data was stolen by the attacker.

In addition, the court found that Andrei Kovalenko transferred funds to the FBK organization, which was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia.
