NatWest Bank has become the first UK financial institution to make Click to Pay technology developed by Mastercard available to all its customers. According to Finextra, testing of the product lasted several months.
Now NatWest customers will be able to upload multiple bank card details to their mobile device and make online purchases on third-party resources without having to enter a plastic number, CVV code or one-time passwords. This option is currently available only in participating stores.
For the merchant, the card numbers remain encrypted to avoid fraud. At the same time, the technology implies automatic updating of data when a new map is released. So far, the service is only available for debit card holders, but credit cards will also be introduced in the coming months.
