Argentine Federal Police have arrested a 29-year-old Russian citizen in Buenos Aires on charges of laundering cryptocurrencies for various criminals, including North Korean hackers Lazarus. Analytics firm TRM Labs helped identify the attacker.

According to La Nacion, the accused laundered funds through cryptocurrency exchanges and mixers, and then converted the assets into fiat. People came to his apartment every day with bags.

Among other things, part of the $100 million stolen from the Horizon cross-chain bridge by Lazarus hackers in the summer of 2022 passed through the Russian.

The investigation found that as of December 18, 2023, the defendant had purchased more than 1.3 million USDT for Russian rubles and made 2463 cryptocurrency transfers through Binance Pay totaling over $4.5 million.

The attacker changed apartments every month. Information provided by the Binance exchange helped to establish his last location.

All electronic devices, two cryptocurrency wallets with assets worth $121,000, as well as $15 million in cash were seized from the apartment.
