How Google Pay works, which banks support it, how to add cards and pay with it on the Internet.

It has been a year and a half since the Google Pay contactless payment service launched. Its main advantage is the ability to securely store multiple cards in one device. Today PaySpace Magazine will talk about how to use Google Pay: how exactly this system works, which banks support it, how to add cards and pay with it on the Internet.

What is Google Pay?

Google Pay is a mobile electronic payment system developed by Google. It is supported by smartphones, tablets and smartwatches based on Android with an NFC module. Information about whether your gadget is equipped with NFC can be found in the device's settings or in the list of its characteristics on the manufacturer's official website. The most popular smartphones with NFC are collected in this material.

Google Pay also has operating system requirements - the service is compatible with Android 4.4 and higher. In addition, your device must have official firmware.

You can pay with Google Pay in all terminals with a contactless payment icon.

Where and how to use Google Pay:
  1. in the shops
  2. on public transport (for example, on the yellow turnstiles in the subway)
  3. in applications
  4. when paying for goods and services on the Internet
Google Pay allows you to pay for purchases from almost anywhere that has a contactless payment icon. In addition, with it, your data is reliably protected, since during the transaction the card data is not sent to the merchant - they are replaced with a special cipher. Also, if the device is locked, you will not be able to make a payment through it.

Google Pay: how does it work?

If a user doesn't have a contactless card, that doesn't mean they won't be able to enjoy the benefits of Google Pay. Indeed, along with contactless "plastic", you can add a card with a magnetic stripe or a chip to this wallet. And then use an electronic wallet for cashless payments.

Google Pay uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology with a limited range. The system with the NFC module replaces the chip with the PIN-code, as well as the magnetic stripe of the card, using the bank card data loaded into the device.

No one can steal data from your card if you pay for the purchase from your phone.

To make a payment, you need to bring an unlocked device with Google Pay installed to a contactless terminal and hold it until the transaction is completed. In this case, you do not need to enter the PIN-code at the terminal, even if the purchase amount is more than the contactless limit.

Note. The limit of Mastercard contactless payment without PIN input is UAH 500. As for payments via Google Pay, the terminal owner sets the restrictions.

To start using Google Pay, download it from the Google Play store and add payment cards.
