When you ask how to learn to speak beautifully, most likely you mean - how to learn to speak in a way that will be listened to. Indeed, why speak for the sake of speaking? We want to convince.

Persuasion is the combination of a good idea with an effective message.

Where do good ideas come from? They don't come out of the void. Ideas are built on ideas, and perhaps that's why all good writers are active readers. The more you read, watch, listen and interact, the more opportunities for interesting combinations and good ideas. But a good idea isn't worth anything without a compelling expression.

Regardless of nationality, views, educational level, gender, and so on, a person strives for clarity and avoids confusion. If you want to be listened to, be clear.

How can I express myself more clearly? If it is important for you to pass for smart and trustworthy, do not use complex words where simple ones can do.

Clarity of language is a concrete, fairly well-measured parameter. There are so-called readability tests - these are applications that, based on mathematical formulas by the number of words, their complexity, the length of sentences, determine the minimum level of education required to understand the text. In America, the gold standard is eighth grade, which is about 13 years old. This is the level at which the text is readily comprehensible to a wide audience.

For example, Robert Sapolsky's lectures on the biology of human behavior are rated at the seventh grade level. A scientist of Sapolsky's level could speak much more difficult, but his goal is to convey information to as many people as possible.

And another important fact is that the brain tends to conserve energy. He constantly scans the environment in search of information that is important for survival and prosperity, and saves on everything else. If what you say is of no importance to survival or prosperity, chances are you will not be listened to.

Don't burn extra mental calories from your audience. To be listened to, talk about what is important to the person you are talking to. And make it as clear as possible.
