With the growth of online commerce, users must be very careful when submitting their personal and confidential information on various sites. MasterCard has posted some tips for safer online shopping.

1. Protect your privacy.

Do not disclose personal information unless you know who collects it and how it is used. Some websites sell information about their customers to third parties, so check everything in the small print and refuse to provide personal information so that other people do not use it.

2. Do preliminary research.

It is not difficult to create some kind of page on the Internet from which you can conduct some preliminary research on the merchant from whom you are going to purchase something. Especially if the brand is not familiar to you or you have never been to its site before.

3. Use a secure browser.

Use a secure browser as it encrypts the purchase information you send over the internet. This will secure your transaction. Most browsers do this by default.

4. Update your antivirus software.

Make sure you have anti-virus software installed on all devices, including your personal computer, tablet and smartphone, and download updates regularly.

5. Watch out for unauthorized card debits.

Shopping online with a credit or debit card is often safer because of the large transaction limits. If you see or learn about an unauthorized transaction with your card, notify the bank about it. The same should be done if the card is lost or stolen.

6. Take extra security measures.

Many banks provide an additional layer of online shopping security that protects the user's confidential information. This usually involves the introduction of an additional password, which is known only to the cardholder, for example, MasterCard SecureCode. This provides increased protection against the risk of cyber fraudsters gaining access to account numbers.

7. Keep all receipts.

It is very important to keep records of transactions and payments on the Internet. Remember to check the payment details before completing the transaction. Read the site's return policy and privacy policy. Finally, print out a copy of the receipt and also keep a copy in your email. And at the end of the month, compare the amount with the amount shown on your account statement.
