The contactless payment method has greatly simplified the purchase process: a couple of seconds - and you can pick up the goods. To pay, just touch the card to the reader, wait for the sound signal to confirm the payment and remove the card. After the signal, the terminal turns off, which guarantees protection against double debiting of funds. It is necessary to enter the security code if the purchase amount is:
  • exceeds $ 15 for MasterCard and MIR payment systems;
  • reached $ 50 for the Visa system.

The convenience of this method is due to the lack of physical contact, which allows:
  • make daily small payments quickly;
  • eliminate the risk of fraud;
  • increase the life of the card.
Therefore, the correct use of a contactless card to pay for goods and services saves time.

Contactless payment technologies
For contactless payments, this technology must be supported by a bank card and a payment terminal. There are several payment technologies:
  • PayWave. Used on cards of the international payment system Visa.
  • PayPass. Designed for cards of the international MasterCard system.
  • MirPay. It is used when paying by cards of the national system "Mir".
All technologies work equally effectively on the territory of our country. The only difference in their technology is the ease of use for currency conversion and payment abroad. Visa cards allow you to pay for purchases in dollars, while MasterCard is euro-oriented.

At the same time, the technologies used are applied to different types of cards (debit, credit, co-branding) in the same way.

Which side and where to apply the card when paying
To pay with a card with a chip, you need a terminal that reads RFID signals. How the card will be attached (along, across, back or front side) does not matter. An RFID chip transmits a signal at a distance of up to 10 cm, so the information is read 2-3 cm from the terminal. It is necessary to apply a card in order to receive a stable signal and to exclude interruption of the operation.

To determine where to apply the card, you need to pay attention to the terminal or pinpad. The place to which the card is applied can be indicated by a special sign (inverted Wi-Fi), which is located either on the terminal itself or on the pinpad. Some models are marked on the back of the device or in the battery compartment, so the information can be checked with the dealer. Another indication of the presence of an RFID chip is a green flashing LED at the top of the terminal.

Are there any differences between contactless cards of different banks
The contactless payment function differs only in the technologies used, which depend on the payment system, but not on the bank. The choice of a bank card depends only on the client's preferences and additional functions that banks offer (cashback, accumulation of bonuses, additional discounts, extended service programs, etc.).

How to pay with a contactless card
You can make contactless payments in any form of trade relations. The limitations are determined only by the absence of a terminal that reads NFC signals.

Payment for online purchases
To pay for purchases on online services, you must provide identification information, confirm the withdrawal of funds using a one-time password. For an online store, it does not matter how payment is made, since there is no physical possibility of payment by touch.

Payment on the bus
To carry out the operation of debiting money from the client's account, a POS terminal is required. The card is leaned against the reader, after which the payment is made.

Payment via terminal or ATM
The payment algorithm is quite simple:
  • Make sure you have an NFC reader, since not all ATMs and terminals support contactless payment technology.
  • Identify the person and the card. Attach the card to the reader (small black box, usually located near the keyboard) and wait for the PIN code request.
  • Remove the card and enter the PIN.
  • Take the necessary actions (pay for services, transfer funds to an account, request a balance, etc.).
All procedures are completed by entering secret data to confirm the operation.

Pay at a retail store
To pay with a contactless card at the checkout of the store, you must adhere to the following algorithm:
  • Wait until a preliminary check is generated by the cashier. The terminal screen will display the payment amount, which should be checked to avoid conflicts.
  • Attach a card for payment. If the amount is more than $ 15, then enter the PIN code to confirm the payment. If the PIN-code is entered incorrectly, then the operation will need to be repeated. The maximum payment limit depends on the type of card and bank.
  • Wait for the sound signal to write off the money. The terminal is turned off, which protects the client from double debiting of the amount.
  • Get a check.

When using the card outside the country, you must check the restrictions with the cashier. In some countries, a certain limit is imposed on contactless payments, then the operation can only be carried out by contact.
