Google introduces a new "About This Image" tool that analyzes image metadata to determine its origin and identify manipulations created with the help of artificial intelligence. The updated tool is included in the latest version of Google Search tools.
According to the company's announcement, the new version of Google Search provides users with 3 new ways to get more information about the images they find on the web:
You can access the tool by clicking on the three dots on the image in the Google Images results, or by selecting " more about this page "in the"About this Result" tool.
In addition, Google has introduced the Fact Check Explorer for journalists and fact checkers, which allows you to learn more about an image or topic. The tool lets you upload the URL or image itself to Fact Check Explorer and find out if it was mentioned in other fact checks.
According to Google, all tools will work together with generative AI to improve descriptions of sources and content when using Google search. Descriptions created by the AI will be visible in the "more about this page" section. Despite the benefits of the new tools, users will still need to take proactive steps to verify and validate image sources.
