TSYS reported that 46% of Canadian consumers use a credit card to pay the most, according to a study on payment preferences among residents of Canada . This is 34% more than in 2021. The e-commerce market is growing in Canada, analysts say, and the use of credit cards to pay for online purchases will also grow.

“More payment options are available to consumers than ever before, thanks to the development of new technologies and the entry into the payments market of non-traditional companies,” said John Dale Zester, executive director of communications at TSYS.

In addition to payment preferences, the report also found Canadian consumers are interested in using mobile phones to manage and protect their accounts. About 30% of those surveyed reported that they would like to use a mobile phone to stop an unauthorized transaction. In addition, 25% of respondents would like to view their account balance using a smartphone.

Most often, Canadians use mobile apps offered by financial institutions. 24% of respondents use such applications at least several times a month.

About 50% of those surveyed in the course of the study expressed their desire to expand the communication process with their banks, including accepting coupons from them, special offers or communicating on social networks.
