Employees are being urged to be extra vigilant during the investigation.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has recently been the victim of a cyberattack of alarming proportions. The investigation of this cybercrime is already underway, and all employees have been asked to remain extremely vigilant.

An RCMP spokesperson said that despite the rapid development of events, the operation of the service was not affected, and there was no threat to the safety of Canadian citizens. The rapid response and implemented minimization strategies have shown the effectiveness of measures taken to prevent such threats.

The RCMP is actively working with other Canadian government agencies to continue to assess the extent of the security breach and bring those responsible to justice.

The police also stressed that at the moment it is not yet known about the consequences of the attack for international police and intelligence services. The official RCMP website remains unavailable at the time of publication of the news.

It is noteworthy that in November 2023, the Government of Canada already reported on another hacking. Then the incident affected two government contractors, namely Brookfield Global Relocation Services (BGRS) and SIRVA Worldwide Relocation & Moving Services.

As a result of this attack, the data of both current and former employees of the Government of Canada, including personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, were disclosed.

Current and previous events highlight the importance of cybersecurity and the need to implement comprehensive data protection measures to protect both government employees and ordinary residents of the country.
