Cyber police of the Dnipropetrovsk region, together with investigators of the Investigation Department of the GDNP in the region under the procedural guidance of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, exposed and stopped the illegal activities of a 25-year-old self-taught hacker from the city of Kamianske.

Since the beginning of 2024, the man, using the introduction of malicious program code (the so-called SQL injections), has been hacking the servers of various web resources, in particular dating sites, and received lists of users' emails, to which he later brute-force a password using special software. The slang name for this method of breaking is brute force (from the English brute force - brute force).

Thus, the defendant received authorization data from the electronic mailboxes of more than 10 thousand users from different countries.

The hacker acquired specialized software for interfering with the operation of electronic networks and automatic password guessing on the Internet.

Subsequently, the attacker logged into compromised user accounts that were not protected by two-factor authentication. In this way, the hacker obtained the information necessary to access the victims' crypto wallets and appropriated their virtual assets. From the "worked out" accounts, the attacker formed databases for sale on the darknet.

Cyber police have established about 10 accounts of the defendant on various hacker forums, some of which are administered from the Russian Federation.

Earlier this year, law enforcement officers, with the power support of the special unit of the TOR, conducted searches at the address of the defendant's residence and in the car he used. Computer equipment and mobile phones were seized.

Investigators informed the man of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 361 (Unauthorized interference in the work of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks), Part 1 of Article 361-2 (Unauthorized sale or distribution of information with limited access that is stored in computers) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine He faces up to 15 years in prison with deprivation of the right hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the right to bail.

The possibility of cooperation between the defendant and enemy agents is being checked. Investigative actions are underway to establish the full range of victims and the amount of damage caused. Additional qualifications are possible.
