Utah, 23, sentenced to 27 months in prison for a series of DDoS attacks that disabled Sony PlayStation Network, Steam, Microsoft Xbox, EA, Riot Games, Nintendo, Quake Live, DOTA2 and League of servers Legends.

In life, the convicted cybercriminal is known as Austin Thompson, but on the Internet he is known under the pseudonym DerpTrolling. It was this character who began a kind of flash mob - to attack gaming services during the Christmas holidays.

Thompson explained his "pranks" by the desire to "make people spend the holidays with their loved ones", as well as simply "for the sake of lulz" (just for lulz).

All cyber incidents involving Austin Thompson occurred in 2013. At that time, they were extremely successful, since then even large companies neglected powerful DDoS protection.

The cybercriminal used his Twitter account @DerpTrolling to announce the start of the attacks. Also there, the attacker accepted applications for the next victim.

His actions led to the fact that many gaming services were unavailable for a certain period of time. Later, FBI agents became interested in him.

Now the "hacker" will be forced to spend a little over two years in prison, according to court documents.
