Implementing operational information, employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Rostov Region detained a 29-year-old resident of a neighboring republic, suspected of stealing goods from one of the marketplaces.

As the police found out, the detainee had hacked accounts of individual entrepreneurs who sold their goods on the online store site. Only large contractors with warehouses with a large assortment of various things became the objects of the defendant. Having access to personal data, the attacker independently filled out applications on behalf of the victims, who were located in various cities of the country, for the urgent movement of their goods to the city of Donetsk, Rostov region. When the necessary items arrived at the warehouse, the man came to the delivery points and, using a QR code, took someone else’s property, and then sold it through online stores.

Thanks to the marketplace security staff, operatives were able to quickly identify the attacker and thereby confiscate some of the goods and return them to their rightful owners.

It was established that the detainee was involved in three episodes of illegal activity. The total amount of damage from the unlawful actions of the defendant amounted to about 6,000,000 rubles.

A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect on the grounds of a crime provided for in paragraph “c” of Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft”. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for him. Currently, police are carrying out a set of measures aimed at identifying all participants in the illegal act and episodes of illegal activity.
