The Leninsky District Court of Grodno sentenced a man who took other people's money by deception to five years in prison. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Grodno Regional Court.
The previously convicted defendant was serving a sentence of community service. At the same time, from August 2021 to January 2023, in Minsk, Grodno and other places, he deliberately took possession of the money of 11 people under various pretexts. The man offered to buy video cards and equipment for mining cryptocurrency, provide assistance in exchanging Belarusian rubles for Russian rubles and other similar services, but had no intention of fulfilling his promises. In total, he embezzled more than Br38 thousand, over $22 thousand and 29,850 Russian rubles.
At the court hearing, the accused admitted guilt in the crime and repented. The court found him guilty of taking property by deception (fraud), committed repeatedly, on an especially large scale. On the basis of Part 4 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five years with a fine of 100 basic units (1 BV - Br40). In accordance with Part 1 and Part 4 of Article 73 of the Criminal Code, the accused, based on the totality of sentences, was finally sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 5 years and 2 days, to be served in a correctional colony under enhanced security conditions. He will also have to pay a fine of 100 BV.
It was decided to recover from the accused in favor of the victims the material damage caused by the crime in a total amount of more than Br107 thousand. He is also obliged to compensate for moral damage of Br2.5 thousand and pay a state fee in the amount of over Br5 thousand. The court verdict has not entered into legal force and may be appealed and protested in accordance with the established procedure.
