Do people here consider communicating with these forms of communication safe (assuming the head of the see eye A isn't on the other end)? These are the main forms of encripted communication I have been using and am now reading about this icq thing, don't really have any idea what it is, but it seems like it is necessary to have it and know how to use it to talk to anyone from this site offline.

I put up a post asking about it and for guidance as to where to learn about it, something I am def willing to do, but Im wondering if people here for some reason do not trust GPG and pidgin/otr as I had been under the impression that they are very safe so long as the person on the other end keeps their private key separate and safe and doesn't turn rat.

GPG is 100% safe at keeping communication private from third parties as long as the two individuals communicating use strong passphrases and keep their private keys somewhere safe like a Truecrypt encrypted container with a strong passphrase.

Pidgin with OTR is pretty safe but I wouldn't trust it as much as GPG. Also, make sure the people that you communicate with have logs turned off on pidgin. Pidgin has logs turned on by default when installed.
