The new standards are designed to strengthen protection against spam and phishing.

Google is taking new steps to strengthen the protection of Gmail users from spam and phishing attacks, tightening requirements for senders of mass mailings.

Recently, the company has started automatically blocking emails from senders who do not meet the new, stricter anti-spam protection criteria and do not use mandatory message authentication.

The changes require users who send more than 5,000 messages a day to their Gmail mailboxes:
  • configure email authentication using SPF / DKIM and DMARC for your domains;
  • use a TLS connection for email transmission;
  • avoid sending unsolicited messages, provide a one-click unsubscribe option, and process unsubscribe requests within 2 days;
  • make sure that the "percentage of spam hits" in Postmaster Tools does not exceed 0.1%;
  • keep the spam level below 0.3%;
  • do not impersonate another person in the "From" headlines.

Failure to comply with these requirements can lead to problems with email delivery, including rejecting emails or automatically sending them to the recipients spam folder. Google warns that starting in April 2024, it will gradually reject traffic that does not meet the requirements. The Company strongly recommends that senders use the temporary error period to make the necessary changes and achieve compliance with the regulations.

Starting in June, these requirements will be applied more strictly, especially to domains used for mass mailings starting from January 1, 2024. As stated at the announcement of the new guidelines, thanks to artificial intelligence, the company manages to block almost 15 billion rubles. prevent spam, phishing attempts, and malware from being sent daily, preventing more than 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts, and malware.
