The new feature will allow you to find out the sender without even opening the SMS.

Google is developing a new feature for the Messages app that will allow users to see the sender's name even if their number isn't saved in contacts. The new feature was revealed by analyzing the APK of the latest beta version of the app.

This function will work if the sender has the "profile detection" feature enabled. When a user receives a message from a number that is not listed in the contact list, the sender's name will be displayed in the message notification.

Currently, the ability to manage profile detection settings is available via the Google Account web interface, but the Google documentation already includes a guide for configuring the profile detection feature.

It's also worth mentioning that the ability to see a name with an unknown number is not something new for some beta testers who already had access to this feature. However, the new feature is that names will now be displayed directly in message notifications.

Sender's name in the notification

Unlike WhatsApp, where user profiles can include an account name, phone number, and status, Google Messages previously only allowed you to see the sender's phone number without identifying it until the user opens the app. The new feature fixes the flaw, allowing you to immediately identify who sent the message, which is especially important for fighting SMS spam.

The feature is still under development, and there is no guarantee that it will appear in the final version of the product. However, these changes can significantly simplify interaction with new contacts and improve the user experience of the Messages app.
