The price for this will be reduced personalization and recommendations.

Google is adapting its data collection and processing methods to comply with the new European Digital Markets Act, which will take effect on March 6. Recently, the company offered users in the European Union to choose whether they want to keep the connection between certain Google services.

According to the amendments, EU residents will be able to restrict the processing of personal data in such services as the Google search engine, YouTube, advertising services of the company, Play Store, Chrome, as well as Google Purchases and Google Maps.

However, users should keep in mind that restricting access to their data may affect the functionality of some services. For example, blocking data collection in YouTube and Chrome will lead to the loss of personalized recommendations, and Google Maps will not display places based on previous user activities.

"When these services are linked, they may share your data with each other and with other Google services for certain purposes. Any type of data described in the Google Privacy Policy may be transferred between linked Google services. This data includes, in particular, the history of your actions, which is saved if you are logged in to your account. For example, it can be information about what you're looking for and what videos you're watching or listening to," the company explained in a blog post.

Users are asked to configure the list of services that can exchange data themselves. The company added that the connection of Google services with each other does not imply the transfer of data to third-party products or companies. All interactions are carried out exclusively within the Google ecosystem and in accordance with their Privacy Policy.

Settings for maintaining communication between services will take effect on March 6, 2024. Users can check and change the list of related services at any time.
