Google One loses valuable features, but the price remains the same.

From the end of July, Google will start providing reports on personal data leaks in the dark Web to all Google account holders, which was previously available only to Google One subscribers. Now any user can use the service to protect their online presence.

According to the Google support page, the free service will become part of the "results about you" feature, where you can already check what personal data is indexed by Google, including your home address, phone number, or email. The data can be removed from the search results.

Today, there are many services, both paid and free, that track data leaks on the dark web and send notifications to users. Among them, the well-known service Have I Been Pwned? . However, for Google users, combining the two monitoring functions in one place, where you can monitor potential leaks of personal information, looks like a logical step.

Google notification about the termination of darkweb monitoring in Google One

It is worth noting that such a change deprives Google One subscribers of two advantages added last spring. One of them was data leak monitoring, and the second was Google One's VPN, which will be closed by the end of 2024. While features were hardly the main reason for subscribing to Google One, it can be frustrating for some users to see the benefits disappear without reducing the cost of the subscription.
