How to upgrade to GhostBSD 24.01.1 and enjoy the new features.
The latest GhostBSD 24.01.1 update introduces significant changes based on the version of FreeBSD 14.0-STABLE.
One of the key innovations concerns Update Station, which now allows you to upgrade to major versions of FreeBSD, in particular from 13.2-STABLE to 14.0-STABLE. In addition, changes were made to the installer: the created user is now an administrator, and the root account gets the same password as the administrator. Once installed, changing the administrator password will not affect the root user's password.
The update also brought improvements, new features, and bug fixes. Among them:
Bugs were fixed and fixed, including issues with the 32-bit version of Wine, the Whisker menu, and videos. In addition, improvements have been made to the ZFS and EFI settings to ensure system stability and security.
Security dependencies have been updated to protect the system from vulnerabilities. Despite a wide range of improvements, developers note known issues, including the lack of wallpaper when you first log in and the lack of a warning when setting up an administrator account.
For users who want to upgrade from version 23.10.1 to 24.01.1, there are detailed instructions covering the upgrade process via pkg, as well as updating the ZFS pool and instructions for updating EFI files for older installations. You can download images, verification amounts, hybrid ISOs (DVD, USB), and torrents on the official GhostBSD website.
