Computer soldiers as a response to geopolitical tensions.
In response to growing cyber threats, Germany has announced the creation of a specialized cyber unit in the structure of its armed forces. The decision was announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
The new Cyber and Information Domain Service (CIR) will be the fourth independent agency in the German army, along with the land forces, the Navy and the Air Force. All types of troops will be subordinated to a single coordination center of the operational command of the Bundeswehr. The army reorganization project was called the "Bundeswehr Structure".
The main task of the new unit is to combat hybrid threats, including disinformation and influence operations, as well as perform tactical tasks in the field of cyber warfare.
Boris Pistorius stressed that the CIR institution is designed to adapt the German armed forces to the changing geopolitical situation. In addition, the Defense Minister pointed out the need to increase the German defense budget by $7.06 billion in 2025 in order to meet the NATO target for defense spending of 2% of GDP.
