The green energy company confirms the theft of data from its systems.

Hackers hacked into electricity supplier Tibber and stole customer data. According to reports, more than 50,000 people from Germany were affected by the leak, while the attackers have already put the stolen information up for sale on the darknet. The company confirmed the attack to heise security.

Since November 11, a file called "Tibber Data Breach - Leaked, Download" has been available on one of the popular darknet forums. The published samples contain names, e-mail addresses, order amounts, and partially data on customer addresses.

Later, the reliability of the information was confirmed: the data was indeed stolen from the Tibber online store. However, Tibber representatives stressed that data on payment transactions, electricity consumption, as well as the full addresses and passwords of customers were not compromised.

However, there are also disagreements about the amount of stolen data. Hackers claim 243,000 lines of information, while Tibber insists that only 50,000 customers were affected. A possible explanation for this difference is duplicate records or splitting data into multiple lines.

After the incident, Tibber promptly launched an internal investigation and notified the Berlin police. On November 13, affected users were informed of the leak. Now the company is actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies and experts involved in order to find out all the circumstances of the incident and strengthen security measures.
