Gemini cryptocurrency exchange has warned that it suffered from a data leak that occurred at one of its partners. It is known that the leak affected an unnamed ACH provider (Automated Clearing House), which was attacked by hackers.

The exchange began sending notifications to victims a month ago, on June 26, 2024, and at the end of last week submitted a copy of such a letter to the California Attorney General's Office.

According to this notice, Gemini suffered a data breach from third parties after an unauthorized attacker penetrated the systems of an unnamed Gemini vendor (between June 3 and June 7, 2024).

It is reported that the incident affected the banking information of some exchange customers, including their full name, bank account number and route number that Gemini used for ACH transfers. It is emphasized that no other information (such as date of birth, residential address, social security number, email address, phone number, username, password) was compromised.

Currently, the incident with the data leak is localized, and the investigation of the incident continues with the involvement of external information security specialists.

Victims are advised to pay close attention to incoming messages and pay attention to signs of possible fraud. In addition, we recommend enabling multi-factor authentication for bank accounts that are linked to Gemini and contacting your bank to request additional security measures or a new account number.

Gemini representatives separately told the media that the incident affected about 15,000 people. The company also stressed that the analysis did not reveal any signs of attacks on customers.
