Fraudulent PBX was detected by police in Almaty, reports Polisia.kz.
The special operation "Antifraud" was conducted by Cyberpol employees of the criminal police of Almaty together with the Center for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A 30-year-old visitor from Pavlodar was detained, and a SIM-box with 512 slots, as well as 1,620 SIM-cards were found in his rented office.
— This equipment is used by Internet scammers to activate various Internet services and instant messengers, while remaining anonymous. In addition, it is used to register accounts, through which later fraudsters call Kazakhstanis, being actually in another country. The detainee said that he agreed to work, which consists in setting up and connecting this equipment and periodically replacing SIM cards in the slots. These testimonies will be thoroughly checked in the framework of the criminal case initiated under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan," Maksat Kanapyaev, head of the Criminal Police Department of the DP of Almaty, informed.
