Fraud involving the sale of cars and drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine for more than UAH 46 million - as a result of a joint Ukrainian-Moldovan operation, 9 members of a criminal group were detained in Moldova

Within the framework of international cooperation, law enforcement officers of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova stopped the activities of a criminal group in Moldova, which deceived the funds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, their families and volunteers under the guise of selling cars and drones via the Internet. To this end, the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases of the Republic of Moldova have established a joint investigation team.

Currently, law enforcement officers of the Republic of Moldova have reported suspicion of fraud to 9 citizens of Ukraine (Part 6 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova).

It is established that residents of the Odessa region-members of two families after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation moved to Moldova and during 2023-2024, placed ads for the sale of cars and drones from abroad for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Such ads were published on the online platforms "OLX", " Bon.Ua», «Avto-Ria».

Buyers were offered to make an advance payment to a bank card, and after receiving the money, the sellers did not get in touch.

As of now, 67 episodes of fraud have been identified. The approximate amount of losses is UAH 46 million.

At least 27 members of the criminal group have been identified, most of them are located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Law enforcement officers are taking measures to detain them.

23 searches were conducted on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, about 61 thousand US dollars, 20 luxury cars, about 5 kg of gold were seized.

13 searches were conducted on the territory of Ukraine, during which 3 cars were seized

Currently, 8 out of 9 suspects in the Republic of Moldova have taken preventive measures in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.

In Moldova, two more suspects were detained in a fraudulent scheme to steal money from the Ukrainian military.

This is reported by the publication NewsMaker with reference to the police.

A man and a woman aged 46 and 40 were detained when they tried to cross the Moldovan-Romanian border. They tried to leave Moldova through the Cahul-Oancea checkpoint.

The suspects were placed in isolation for 72 hours.
