The bureau revealed the earnings of extortionists and the method of data recovery.

The FBI is urging victims of LockBit ransomware attacks to seek help, as the FBI has more than 7,000 decryption keys that can help recover encrypted data for free. This was stated by Assistant Director of the FBI cyber division Brian Vorndran at a conference on cybersecurity in Boston.

The LockBit crackdown was a global effort involving agencies from 11 countries. In February, operations were carried out to destroy the LockBit infrastructure and impose sanctions on their participants and partners. As a result of the actions of law enforcement officers, more than 7,000 decryption keys were seized.

Analysis of the seized data showed that LockBit and its associates received up to $1 billion in ransoms after 7,000 attacks on organizations around the world between June 2022 and February 2024. The FBI urged all victims to contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies to stop the group's activities, LockBit continues to operate. In April 2024, LockBit claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the Canadian pharmacy chain London Drugs and the Boeing company after another law enforcement operation, during which the identity of the alleged leader of LockBit, using the pseudonym LockBitSupp, was revealed. In turn, LockBitSupp denied all the charges and said that the FBI "fabricated the case."
