Almost one in ten has lost large sums of money due to telephone fraud. This is the conclusion reached by Kaspersky Lab specialists based on the results of a study conducted in June this year.
In the course of the study, 1,000 residents of Russia were interviewed. About a third of the respondents admitted that they or their loved ones lost money as a result of telephone fraud, of which 9% lost very large sums. However, only 4% of the victims turned to law enforcement agencies.
Typically, fraud occurs according to the following scheme: scammers call from a fake number or from a number that actually belonged to the bank, introduce themselves as employees of a financial institution and deceive the victim with passwords and / or two-factor authorization codes to enter their personal account and / or confirm the money transfer.
Only 17% of respondents use specialized software to protect against spam and fraud. 37% of respondents use built-in tools like blacklists. Every fifth Russian surveyed (21%) does not use any security solutions. Half of the respondents (51%) prefer not to answer calls from unknown numbers.
According to Dmitry Volgin, senior system analyst at Kaspersky Lab, if a subscriber is called and informed about a suspicious transaction from his card, then with a probability of more than 90% they are fraudsters.
