Without aggressive settings, security will change, but for the better.

The Brave Software company plans to abandon the strict fingerprint protection mode in its Brave browser. The reason is that this mode causes many sites to work incorrectly.

The fingerprint protection feature in Brave is designed to enhance your privacy. It does not allow you to track users using fingerprinting (creating digital fingerprints)

This technology does not use cookies and involves collecting different data about the browser and device. The data is then combined to create a unique profile that can be used to identify a person.

There are two protection modes available in Brave: Standard and Strict. They block known fingerprinting methods in different ways.

As stated in the announcement, over time, the Brave team realized that strict mode brings more problems than it solves. Both for the project and for clients.

In addition, only about 0.5% of Brave users use this mode. Others are satisfied with the default settings.

In fact, these 0.5% become more vulnerable to tracking, despite the fact that they use a more aggressive blocker, as they stand out from the general background.

Standard security won't go away. Moreover, it will be improved and optimized. Therefore, most users are unlikely to notice significant changes.

"Brave's standard protection is already the most extensive and reliable among popular browsers," the announcement reads.

"Brave's unique data distortion makes it difficult for fingerprinting to track users. Our goal is to provide maximum protection for all customers while maintaining site compatibility."

Strict mode has already been removed in the Nightly test version. In the standard version, changes will appear from 1.64 for Android and desktop computers.

The latest stable version at the moment is 1.61. This means that changes are expected within a couple of months. According to statistics, about 0.5% of the 65.5 million monthly active users are more than 330,000 people affected by the update.
