Installing programs not from the official store is now just as safe.

Google announced the launch of an improved "Google Play Protect" scanning system for applications downloaded from open Internet resources, and not from the official store. This tool is designed to strengthen the security of Android devices.

Now, when installing applications from external sources, Google Play Protect offers the user a full-screen real-time scanning interface. The program performs a deep code analysis and provides detailed information about potential risks.

Despite the fact that Google presents the scan function as a "recommendation", the user can not actually bypass this stage. He is faced with a choice: either allow the system to check the program, or refuse to install it at all.

According to the developers, verification involves sending parts of the code to Google's servers for analysis. Every day, Play Protect analyzes about 125 billion programs. Using advanced techniques, the tool detects even the most sophisticated versions of malware, such as those that use AI to bypass standard security mechanisms.

Studies have shown that the probability of installing a malicious app outside the Google Play Store is now 20 times higher. According to the 2018 report, only 0.04% of downloads from the Play Store contained potentially malicious elements, while this figure reached 0.92% for external sources. Against this background, the innovation seems particularly relevant.

Users from India will be the first to try out the feature. Then, owners of Android smartphones around the world will have access to the improved scanning system.
