How Diebold PIN Offset Actually Works (Exact Algorithm)
Diebold uses a modified IBM 3624 method with a specific validation table.Step-by-step calculation (copy-paste formula):
- Take the last 12 digits of the PAN (exclude check digit)
- Pad with leading zeros if needed to 16 digits (Diebold uses 16-digit DES key)
- Apply Diebold validation table to each digit:
Code:0→0 1→1 2→2 3→3 4→4 5→6 6→7 7→8 8→9 9→5 - Result = 16-digit decimal number
- Encrypt with Diebold DES key (secret – different per bank)
- Take first 4 digits → natural PIN
- Customer PIN minus natural PIN = offset (stored on Track 2)
