The German platform with state funding is attracting more and more attention every day.

The German government is actively investing in the highly controversial Datarade platform used for data trading, which has already been at the center of privacy scandals three times this year.

Journalists netzpolitik.org and Bayerischer Rundfunk found out that data, including confidential information about the movements of Germans, is traded through Datarade, which threatens the national security of the country.

A recent example was the offer of an American data merchant that gave away 3.6 billion geolocated records for free. This data also included information about people working in the security and defense sectors.

Similar disclosures were made in the Netherlands in January and in Switzerland in June. All three cases confirm that data that violates the rights of millions of people and poses a security threat is distributed through the German platform.

In 2019, the German venture investment firm High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) invested one million euros in Datarade and still owns about 20% of the company's shares. The total value of the HTGF is 1.4 billion euros, of which 170 million came from the German Ministry of Economy.

The Economy Ministry, led by Robert Habeck, said it was taking the situation seriously, but did not influence the investment decisions of the funds. The Datarade platform claims that it does not violate any laws, and has already removed the data of the American seller from the platform in order to understand the situation.

German MPs demand full transparency and responsibility from all participants in this process. They emphasize that trading in personal data is illegal and legislation should be strengthened to prevent such cases.

It also notes the need for immediate government action to protect citizens ' data and ensure security. There were also calls to stop state funding of companies involved in such scandals, and to reconsider the approach to supporting startups, focusing not only on profitability.

It also highlights the importance of investing in digital infrastructure while maintaining high standards of data management and the need for additional information to assess the situation.
