What does the new architecture hide, and how will it change the way we store information?

Chinese company Tencent has developed a new NoSQL database called X-Stor, which it claims can work with multiple data models more efficiently than other solutions on the market. This project allowed the company to consolidate its databases and improve the use of resources.

Tencent notes that it has previously used various NoSQL databases for its products, including social networks, video platforms, online games and cloud services. For example, graph databases were used to store information about user interactions, column databases were used for user profiles, document databases were used for advertising operations, and temporary databases were used to record user actions.

However, this fragmentation of solutions led to difficulties in supporting new data models, which sometimes forced the company to create systems from scratch, repeating the functions already implemented. This led to inefficient use of resources.

In turn, X-Stor eliminates these problems by supporting different data models by expanding the corresponding storage engines and access interfaces. This allows you to efficiently work with multiple data models on a single platform, which sets it apart from competitors such as MongoDB, Redis, and ArangoDB.

X-Stor operates on the Serveless principle and is managed through its own Kubernetes Engine, using SSD drives to process various data models. A database can distribute the load across clusters to make optimal use of available resources.

Tencent claims that the X-Stor database is capable of processing up to 700 billion queries per day, with a peak load of 30 million queries per second, and supports more than 100,000 tables with different data models. However, access to X-Stor is still limited - the database is not an open source.

Tencent continues to introduce advanced solutions, competing with giants such as Alibaba and Huawei, which are also actively developing their own cloud technologies and infrastructure.
