We understand the details of the scandalous case.

Russian citizen Dariy Pankov, known on the Internet under the pseudonym dpxaker, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud.

28-year-old Darius Pankov, the author of the NLBrute malware, was extradited to the United States from Georgia. In February 2023, he was charged with conspiracy, access device fraud, and computer fraud.

The NLBrute malware allows attackers to gain access to secure computers by decrypting login credentials. According to the prosecution, Pankov not only created and sold NLBrute, but also sold thousands of credentials to access computers that he obtained using his software.

The stolen credentials were put up for sale on a dark site that specializes in buying and selling computer access. The total number of computers that were put up for sale exceeded 35,000. According to investigators, from 2016 to 2019, Pankov earned more than $ 350,000 from this business. Pankov's victims include two law firms in the Middle District of Florida.

At the moment, Pankov faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. He also agreed to confiscate $ 358,437 earned from illegal activities. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

A press release from the Department of Justice states: “According to the plea agreement, Pankov developed malicious software called 'NLBrute' that can compromise secure computers by decrypting login credentials."

Pankov was detained by the Georgian authorities on October 4, 2022 and extradited to the United States.
