Danger to use plastic without embossing

is it too much risked to used plastic without embossing ( as the cashier always cheking the last 4 digit of the card ) while doing the Instore carding ?

depending on where you go, certain stores request last 4 (Target) for purchases over $250 or so anything below is ok . Stores like wal-mart do not.
