Hello, running in the shadows! Hello, random carders. Of course, we will muddy our schemes for earning money. And these schemes will not always be legal. This article was written so that we ourselves do not become victims of divorce, suckers on trust.

In our time, bandits operate not only in dark alleys, but also on the Internet (we already know). What you need to know in order not to fall for their bait-in the material.

In Russia, the former CIS countries, and around the world, online ad trading is gaining more and more momentum. There are a great many online platforms where anyone can put up for sale or auction any item they don't need. The purpose of such sites is to give people the opportunity to get rid of unnecessary junk, and to buy something necessary at a convenient price. According to the OLX Director Sergey Gapochenko: "the best – selling product on ad platforms is clothing".

However, as in ordinary "street" trading, on the Internet, both buyers and sellers face dangers in the form of fraud and deception. We found out from experts what pitfalls await users.

Double-edged danger
The most common fraud is related to prepayment, claims Sergey Gapochenko. In this case, the seller demands to make an advance payment for the goods, receives the money, and then disappears. The second most popular scheme is related to obtaining payment card data, when the "seller" under the guise of a bank employee or any other pretext demands payment card data from the buyer.

In addition, there are other types of Internet scammers (yes, yes, and so are we). The classification is something like this:
  • The simplest fraudster by setting a lower price and a detailed description of the product provokes increased demand. Quickly receives feedback, and then requires a prepayment;
  • A smart fraudster who tries to hurry the buyer to transfer money or provide card details (CVV2 and expiration date) as soon as possible.
  • The fraudster is an expert. Addresses the "client" under the guise of an employee of a bank or online store, and requires card details ostensibly in order for the transaction to be successful.
  • Blackmailers can be found among both sellers and buyers. The buyer assures that the money has already been transferred, demands to send the goods as soon as possible, and in confirmation of his words sends a fake SMS about debiting funds from the account (it is not a problem to fake a bank SMS using Internet services). The blackmailer-seller, having received 10-20% of the advance payment, assures that he has already sent the parcel with the goods, and demands the entire amount.
  • A professional fraudster calls on behalf of a non-existent online store and asks about the condition of the product being sold, gets into the confidence of the seller, and then transfers money (in words)according to the same "fake" scheme;
  • A creative fraudster can come up with anything to simplify the task. For example, say that CVV2 is the number of the bank branch where the card was issued, and it must be reported to the "online store" for a successful transfer of money to the criminals ' account.

Many scammers are good psychologists (which is quite natural), they ingratiate themselves with the trust of their victims, share their personal experience, which additionally endears them to their clients. "It can be a student, a prisoner, or even a retired opera singer. Anyone, in general. - says the chief operative of the Department of Combating CybercrimeVitaly Senik. – Scammers are guided by the social situation and process many directions." But ransomware also has its weaknesses. They are quite easy to calculate based on the following features:
  • Limited number of photos for a particular product;
  • Categorical refusal of delivery by cash on delivery;
  • A large number of errors in the text;
  • Categorical prepayment requirement;
  • Understating the price;
  • Insufficient product description.

In order not to get into a mess, you need to follow these rules:
  • Sell and buy goods in your own city-this gives you the opportunity to meet in person and buy / sell the item for cash (which, however, you need to check for forgery). If it turns out that the item you need was in another city, you should use the delivery service with cash on delivery;
  • You should not trust SMS messages with your card balance, they may turn out to be fake. The best way to find out the status of your account is through a bank's hotline or online banking.

Cyber Police
If you still did not follow the above tips and became a victim of online robbers (I doubt that there are such people among the subscribers of my channel, but still), of course, you should immediately contact law enforcement agencies. But not to the ordinary regional police department, but to the Department for Combating Cybercrime under the Ministry of Internal Affairs specially created for such cases. There are different variations of such departments in different countries.

You can apply to lawyers even for small amounts, because the silence of victims will only encourage fraudsters to continue their criminal activities.

When making an application, it is important to report the following facts:
  • Profile, account of the fraudulent user;
  • Personal data (although it is often fictitious);
  • Email and other means of communication (Skype, jabber, etc.).

Important! The investigation of such crimes is complicated by the fact that banks often do not give out information about fraudsters ' accounts for a long time – up to six months. In addition, at the moment there is no convenient mechanism for temporarily restricting access to funds that fraudsters transfer to their cards (for 2-3 hours). Usually it takes from 20 minutes to an hour when a person realizes that he was deceived. Such a delay in translation could reduce the number of cybercrimes.

In general, future cyberstalkers. We read the article and learn not to fall for such "divorces" from our colleagues.
