In the age of technology, even scammers rely on AI.

The CryptoRom scam scheme, which combines Pig Butchering and romance scam scams, uses artificial intelligence to interact with potential victims. Researchers of the information security company Sophos told about the scheme.

CryptoRom scammers usually reach out to their victims via social media and dating apps, and then offer cryptocurrency trading via fake apps. The new feature is the use of chatbots such as ChatGPT or Google Bard to make conversations more realistic and convincing.

It is reported that scammers "siphon" money from victims, constantly coming up with various pretexts after the initial payment, for example, to pay taxes and other fees to withdraw their money, but in reality the criminals simply steal the funds.

Attackers were also able to bypass the App Store and Google Play verification systems by remotely changing the content of apps after verification. Researchers warn that it is easier for scammers to attack iPhone users.

To avoid this type of scam, always be critical of any investment offers, especially if they come from strangers on the Internet. You should never share your personal data or money with strangers without a thorough background check. If a sentence seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be vigilant and careful on the Internet.
