It is no secret that we can receive information through sight, hearing, sensation, taste and smell. More interesting is that we can use the same systems of perception in the imagination mode. Those. mentally perceive what is not in the external world. Remember, fantasize, plan. And the funniest thing is that the brain often reacts to the imaginary as if it were real. And gives the appropriate orders to the body.

An offensive memory can give rise to a real offense, even if in reality nothing offensive happens. Just the thought of the upcoming joy can significantly change the biochemistry of the body. And the picture of a possible delay makes you accelerate your step. Subjective reality determines objective processes.

And since the same nerve circuits are used in both perception and imagination, one process displaces the other. And we have to choose every time: to receive information from the outside or to construct it from the inside. And everyone has their own preferences, what to choose more often. We will talk about this now.

Realists and dreamers

Realists choose perception. Dreamers are imagination. It is clear that both those and others use both possibilities: without perception, there is no contact with reality, without imagination - learning and development. The only question is the frequency. But it is clear that their lifestyle will be different. Which?

The realist stands firmly on the ground. He clearly knows what is happening around him. He collects facts. He remembers them. He uses them. It is not easy to confuse him: he knows how it really is. And logic is his excellent assistant.

The dreamer lives by conclusions. Those rare facts that do seep into his subjective reality serve as a basis for generalizations. And once having summarized, the dreamer may no longer information on the same topic: he already knows. And if the facts do not support the theory, then these are just bad facts.

It is interesting, by the way, that most dreamers are able to guess about this weakness of theirs, and therefore they tend to trust the opinion of other people. Convincingly expressed. And it's good if this turns out to be the opinion of a realist, and not of the same dreamer.

Pluses of imagination

It is clear that visionaries have their own strengths. For example, if real circumstances interfere with their plans, they may well act on the basis of imaginary ones. Thus, driving the whole world around mad.

If the dreamer is warmed by the "inner sun", he will be fine, despite the gloomy weather. And what difference does it make if the boss screams when in my mind he is wearing a straitjacket? One craftsman learned not to feel pain from the flame of a lighter, reliably imagining that he was wearing an asbestos glove on his hand.

Imagination, on the other hand, allows you to learn from mistakes. It is enough to remember how screwed up the last time to be more attentive now. No one has a need to step on the rake again if memory helpfully throws up the appropriate episode? And for many, just a show was enough.

And no less important. It is imagination that allows us to see the world as we want to see it. And plan for changes. And find the resources to translate plans into reality. Realists in this regard are much more mundane. It is more difficult for them to feel the possibilities.

Weakness of dreamers

The weaknesses of dreamers are a continuation of their strength. They may feel bad even if everything is great. They are capable of ignoring any feedback with fantastic tenacity. They can be content with the fact that they have already lived in their imagination, and have not begun to embody all this in reality. They can come up with an obstacle where it has never been before.

It is the dreamers who are capable of ruining their health for the sake of an imaginary award such as a "red diploma" or a place on the "Board of Honor". It is the dreamers who are able to stop virtual restrictions like traditions, customs and karmic retribution. It is for them that approval or condemnation from others can become a guide to action.

They can also live on memories. Or dreams. And the present is not a decree for them. Communication with non-existent people is their strong point. Have you met parents who did not notice that their children are not ten years old?

Dreamers are based on beliefs. And they protect them with the help of imagination and skillful filtering of incoming information. And life must shake them hard enough to shake the reinforced concrete confidence in their own deep righteousness.

What to do?

The answer is obvious. Realists need to develop imagination. A dreamer - to open your eyes (and everything else) to reality. At the same time, one must understand that although one can try to remake oneself into the opposite type, nothing sensible will come of it.

First, both have pros and cons. Secondly, different things make them happy. And if a realist is more pleased with a hard-hitting coin and a gentle massage, then fame and honor are tastier for a dreamer. Despite the fact that it is pleasant to both - everything. But everyone's skills are sharpened to get their joys out of life.

How to develop imagination?
  • Dream more often. Ask yourself non-standard tasks and solve them mentally. If you know how to make € 1,000, figure out how to make € 100,000. Go beyond your own boundaries!
  • Play "As If". In imaginary circumstances. And benefit from it. For example, you can mentally fill yourself with energy by imagining the corresponding sensory sensations. Or imagine yourself as a Super Psychologist. And give everyone advice.
  • Practice non-standard behaviors. Doing differently, not like everyone else. Look for your own - original - moves.

How to strengthen contact with reality?
  • Observe. Record facts. Cut off any evaluative thoughts and judgments. Refuse global generics. Check reality regularly. What if everything is different?
  • Monitor reactions. Done - look what has changed.
  • The principle of "dry residue". Whatever you do, see what has changed in reality. No matter what you agree on, check how it affects real actions and events. "Pay for promises with promises, for deeds with deeds."
Bottom line: nature gave us both possibilities. And the talent is in one of them. It is a sin not to use the talent, but it is a pity to lose the opportunity entirely. Well, we'll train.
