Deputies proposed to change the rules for processing personal data.

A draft law aimed at strengthening the protection of personal data of citizens has been submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. This was announced by MP Alexander Khinshtein in his Telegram.

The essence of the initiative is to ensure that consent to the processing of personal data is always issued as a separate, independent act. Khinshtein noted that currently banks, retail chains and other market participants often include consent to the transfer and processing of data in the general contract. As a result, a person often does not understand what exactly they are signing for, especially in e-commerce, where consent is often issued as a simple "tick".

Khinshtein explained that if the bill is adopted, consent to the processing of personal data will be issued separately, including from contracts and other consents to data processing. This is done so that citizens can give consent consciously and have the opportunity to refuse it.

Relevant amendments are proposed to the Federal Laws "On Personal Data"and" On Consumer Protection". Khinshtein noted that the new law will not only restore the right of citizens to independently dispose of information about themselves, but also reduce the risks of data leaks and their use for criminal purposes.
