Both the chip and the magnetic stripe are used to store information about the card and its holder; they differ in memory size, service life and manufacturing cost.

A chip is more reliable than a magnetic stripe, since information from a magnetic stripe can be copied with a special device - a skimmer, which allows you to create a fake card. The electronic chip uses a more complex security mechanism: for each transaction a special code is generated, and for each subsequent operation a new code is required, making a duplicate is virtually impossible.

Since the technical capabilities of trade organizations, enterprises and banking institutions do not always make it possible to completely switch to servicing purely chip plastic cards, combined cards have become more widespread, which allow their holders to work with several types of reading devices.

Banking services for a combined card and a standard card practically do not differ in cost, and the range of its functionality is much wider.
