Inks and paints of various properties and shades are applied to plastic cards.

Let's look at some of them:

Mother of pearl

Pearlescent ink - this paint contains a transparent base and a filler that imitates the pearlescent effect. Such ink can be applied using silk-screen printing, both on the entire surface of the card and on its individual part. This paint gives the picture a pearlescent effect, that is, the picture is “blurred”, resulting in an effect in which the image is supposedly covered with a matte film and slightly shines.

Holographic

For those who prefer high-shine plastic cards, there are inks with a transparent base and filled with finely cut holographic foil. Pieces of foil can be of different sizes. Like pearlescent ink, these paints can also be applied to the entire surface of the card or to a separate part of it, and they shimmer and sparkle incredibly.

Interference

Interference paints can provide the effect of changing the underlying color layers and give the image a shine and pearlescent effect.

Special

There are special paints that can change their color depending on what angle you look at them from. This technology has long been used to protect various documents from forgery. As for plastic cards, this is more of a decorative technique. This effect looks very nice on a white plastic card with a non-contrast image printed on it. Moreover, such paints can be used in combination with geometric patterns, which can create an extraordinary visual effect.

Metallized

The use of metallized inks in the production of plastic cards is a fairly standard process today. But it is slightly different from a similar process when printing paper products. There are a number of specific nuances that should be taken into account both when developing a design and when preparing a file for printing.

Printing on plastic cards with metallized inks is carried out exclusively using a screen method, since while in paper printing it is possible to print with such ink in the offset way, then when printing in the same way on a plastic card after lamination, metallized inks acquire a rather dirty color. The same cannot be said about screen printing, when such paint, on the contrary, enhances its visual qualities.
