Let's consider the problem of color rendering in the most commonly used printing technologies: offset printing, digital and sublimation.

Offset printing

We will not delve into the process of offset printing; it is only important for us to understand that with offset printing, only the printer regulates the intensity of the ink supply to the material. The adjustment process occurs manually, and the printing result is often assessed by eye - comparing the resulting color with the reference color from the pantone fan palette. Pantone colors are obtained by mixing components according to a specific recipe. Most pantone colors contain small proportions of one or more components, and it is very difficult to measure them accurately.

It follows that the color rendering of the same layout by different printers and on different machines will always be different. Therefore, when changing the manufacturer of plastic cards, it is recommended to make a sample.

If, after printing on plastic, lamination is performed (to obtain laminated plastic cards), then some of the colors may change shade under the influence of temperature. In the production of varnished plastic cards, this problem does not exist.

Digital printing

Digital printing, regardless of equipment, involves printing in only one of the color schemes, most often in CMYK and cannot reproduce pantone colors. If branded pantone colors are used in the card layout, it is recommended to make a sample plastic card using the color closest to the specified pantone.

Sublimation printing

This type of printing is used in the production of passes with variable data. Sublimation printing does not have any color requirements as the color range is very narrow. Light colors are the most susceptible to loss, so we do not recommend using a light background in the layout; it will be distorted beyond recognition.

To prevent various conflict situations, it is necessary to consult a specialist about possible color deviations and the likelihood of obtaining a negative effect.
