Microsoft has become the "golden key" for hackers from China.

Hackers associated with the Chinese government stole about 60 thousand emails from the unclassified mailboxes of 10 employees of the US State Department during the summer cyber attack, reports the portal Politico. Recall that then among the victims of hacking was the US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.

Details about the employees were not disclosed, but it is only known that 9 of them were involved in East Asia and one in the Pacific region.

According to the publication, among the most sensitive information that hackers managed to steal are the travel schedules and diplomatic negotiations of victims, as well as the social security numbers of employees.

Attackers used a stolen Microsoft certificate to access the emails of State Department employees. The same certificate was used to hack 25 organizations and government agencies.
