At least a thousand people became victims of a gang of scammers who counterfeited Walmart gift cards in Texas. The four carders were arrested in September 2023 and are now facing charges. The scheme itself was implemented over just a few months.

It turned out that the attackers, led by 42-year-old Geandy O'Reilly, were placing recoded cards on the windows of Walmart stores, and his three accomplices were watching the customers. Once the money came in for plastic, O'Reilly spent it on various purchases.

Specifically, he purchased more than $5,700 worth of jewelry, $5,600 worth of kitchen appliances, $2,500 worth of lobster tails and $3,300 worth of large-screen televisions. During the search, approximately 7,000 Walmart gift cards, two card readers, more than $3,000 in cash, 50 cases of Modelo Especial beer, 38 cases of Corona Extra beer, one laptop, six cell phones, six flat-screen TVs and a PlayStation 5 were confiscated from O'Reilly.
