Caltech and Apple have signed a truce.
The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has decided to end a multi-year lawsuit against Apple and Broadcom, which began in 2016 due to patent infringement on Wi-Fi. The decision to drop the lawsuit was reportedly made about two months after the parties reached a " potential settlement."
In a document filed in the US District Court of California, Caltech stated its intention to drop its claims "with a biased attitude", which means that the institute will not be able to re-file the claim. The document also states that Broadcom does not object to this decision. In addition, Caltech asks to cancel all counterclaims filed by Apple.
Earlier this year, Caltech settled its legal case with Samsung. As noted by Reuters, the institute has also filed patent lawsuits against companies such as Microsoft, Dell and HP.
