British bank ignored almost three dozen apparently fraudulent transactions for 100 thousand pounds

The British-Lithuanian bank Revolut did not interfere with suspicious purchases from the card of one of the clients in the amount of 100 thousand pounds (11.86 million rubles), made within just ten hours. After that, as the This is Money portal clarifies, representatives of the fintech corporation did not answer the calls of the victim for two weeks.

The phone of 53-year-old travel agency owner James Smith was stolen while he was attending the races. Eight hours later, scammers began using money from his Revolut account to buy cryptocurrencies and luxury goods from Dior, Harrods and Burberry. At the same time, about half of the transactions were stopped by the retailers themselves, who did not believe in such a massive purchase from one user. As a result, Smith lost 56 thousand pounds (6.64 million rubles).

After that, Revolut representatives first promised to look into the situation, but then for two weeks they simply ignored Smith's calls. The businessman said that after that he felt like a "physically and psychologically sick person." But even after blocking the card, the scammers somehow managed to spend 13,000 pounds (1.54 million rubles) from it. The only purchase blocked by the bank itself was a transaction of only 5.6 thousand pounds.

“I am emotionally depressed. My blood pressure is off the charts and my heart is beating 130 times a minute. My mental and physical health is deteriorating - I can barely stand, ”Smith complained to reporters.

Only after the intervention of the media staff, Revolut went to meet the deceived client and reimbursed the amount lost by him in full.

“We are very sorry to hear of any instance where our clients are being targeted by ruthless and highly sophisticated criminals. We have completed our investigation of this incident and fully reimbursed Mr. Smith,” the company concluded.
