Data from the automotive manufacturer fell into the clutches of BlackCat. What will happen next?
Global manufacturer of automotive equipment, the company Clarion, was among the victims of the actions of the hacker group ALPHV (BlackCat). This became known after the publication on the site of leaks in the Tor network.
Under the gun was the Japanese division of Clarion Japan, which develops, manufactures and sells a variety of products: from navigation systems to video systems and rear-view cameras. In addition, Clarion Japan offers a range of services, including vehicle maintenance and software updates. Their navigators are particularly popular among car manufacturers in the country. The company cooperates with such corporations as Suzuki, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, Volkswagen, Proton and Peugeot.
ALPHV announced the leak on September 23. A message on their website reads: "Clarion was hacked, resulting in the leakage of confidential data about the company and its partners, including customer technical documentation. After 2 days, the information will be shared with interested parties and partially published in the public domain. If you trust Clarion with your developments, you risk losing both your data and your reputation."
As evidence, hackers published screenshots of the stolen documents.
It is worth noting that the BlackCat / ALPHV group operates from November 2021. Their "portfolio" already includes organizations such as explosives manufacturer SOLAR INDUSTRIES INDIA, US defense contractor NJVC, gas transmission company Creos Luxembourg S. A., fashion brand Moncler, Swissport, NCR and Western Digital.
ALPHV is also implicated in a recent high-profile attack on the MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment chains.
Criminals demands for the amount of ransom vary from tens of thousands of dollars to several million.
