Employees of the Department for combating the illegal use of information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Astrakhan region, with the support of special forces of the Rosgvardiya, stopped the illegal activities of a 48-year-old local resident. The man is suspected of making changes to the software of the equipment of one of the major Russian operators, allowing viewing 183 encoded satellite television channels of digital broadcasting without paying a subscription fee.

According to available information, earlier the man worked part-time in the regional center by installing satellite television and repairing the corresponding receivers. A few years ago, he started receiving complaints from customers who he installed equipment for, that their digital TV does not work. Then the man, having the necessary knowledge in the field of computer information, found out that through special software it is possible to replace the firmware of smart cards. After that, the man set up sales of "rewired" television equipment in the territory of the Astrakhan region, as well as outside it.

To do this, the craftsman placed offers for the sale of devices on the site of free ads. The cost of one modified smart card was about 1,200 rubles.

Investigators of the Investigative Unit of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Astrakhan region opened a criminal case against an Astrakhan citizen under Part 2 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Creation, use and distribution of malicious computer programs). For the duration of the investigation, he was given a measure of procedural compulsion in the form of an obligation to appear.
