In the municipalities of Cabo Roo and Torrevieja in the province of Alicante, as well as in Los Urrutias (Cartagena), a group of ten people was detained, who are suspected of fraud involving fake DNI.
According to investigators, those arrested used false documents to sign contracts with telecommunications companies and issue credit cards.
The police also stated that the scammers corrected the photos on the original DNI, and then used them for selfish purposes.
It is noted that during the searches, documentation with instructions on obtaining personal information fraudulently and a USB drive with images of the original DNI and their modified versions made using computer programs were seized. In addition, law enforcement officers found a list of people with their bank accounts and the amount of balances on them.
Four men, aged between 20 and 46, were arrested and will soon appear in an Orihuela court. The remaining six attackers are people who provided their personal data for fraud.
Investigators found out that a multi-level structure was built in the group. So, its leader controlled all operations and decided which type of fraud would be used in each specific case. The lowest level in the gang was considered to be people who provided personal data.
