Over the next five years, state prosecutors and tax authorities will begin to use artificial intelligence to analyze blockchain and solve crimes. This opinion was expressed by the CEO of the analytical firm Chainalysis, Michael Gronager, writes Cointelegraph.

"In a few years, cryptocurrencies will be more or less the only way to solve crimes because they are much more scalable, simpler, more transparent, able to provide more information and can be used internationally", he said at the Token2049 conference in Singapore.

Automating investigations with generative AI instead of using multiple government agents would be more efficient, the expert said. Such an approach will not allow different departments to "step over each other".

AI agents can even find cryptocurrency tax evaders. However, those who cashed out digital assets more than five years ago "may get away with it."

"[There is] a possibility that you didn't pay the tax not because you didn't want to, but because you didn't know how to do it," Gronagher said.

However, with the emergence of more advanced cryptocurrency taxation lawyers and software tools, such an excuse will not be enough, he believes. The IRS and other agencies are already using AI to track potential tax evaders.

The CEO of Chainalysis drew attention to the fact that it is more difficult for AI agents to track transactions through mixers and anonymous coins like Monero. However, despite the rise in the "absolute volume" of crypto crimes, confidential transactions account for less than 1% of all digital asset transfers.
