Employees of the Bureau of Special Technical Measures (BSTM) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Rostov Region, are taking measures aimed at preventing the theft of funds of citizens of the Russian Federation using SIM boxes.

"According to reports, a previously convicted man, at the direction of the curator, who, presumably, is on the territory of Ukraine, rented an apartment in Rostov-on-Don. There he installed two SIM boxes designed to work a large number of SIM cards at the same time. Scammers called citizens, gained trust and found out their personal data. This made it possible to further access personal accounts on the State Services portal or in banking applications.

For the purpose of conspiracy, each SIM card was used for no more than a day. In addition, the defendant changed his residential addresses. However, this did not help him. Employees of the Bureau of Special Technical Measures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, using innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence and neural networks, established the location of the suspect. In cooperation with operatives of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Rostov region, he was detained in Rostov-on-Don, "said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

In the apartment rented by the man, two SIM boxes for 128 SIM cards each, 2500 SIM cards of various mobile operators, antenna and feeder equipment and other items of evidentiary value were found.

During the analysis of the operation of these devices, the police identified 15 thousand calls to the subscriber numbers of Russian citizens for illegal actions.

"The investigator of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Rostov region initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under paragraph "g" of part three of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The preliminary investigation is ongoing," Iryna Volk added.
